MoveMenu Dance Event e-Zine - August 2012
Hello World, your dance map is here!
You've been asking for it, so here it is! To celebrate the launch of the new MoveMenu Dance Events Map, we are giving a FREE one-year print subscription to the FIRST person who adds an event
from ANY COUNTRY in the world not yet represented on the map. We know that conscious dance and holistic movement are growing rapidly around the globe, and we want to serve you better with an easy tool for connection. So tell your friends in far-away places, and if you have a class or event, add your pin to the map today! (Basic Event
listings are FREE for our subscribers!)
Have you noticed less of our magazines
lying around, and more demand for copies? That's because we are responding to the requests for confirmed distribution, and we're happy to announce that we will be available at Barnes and Noble's nationwide in time for the fall issue. We're also moving to a traditional quarterly schedule, which means that the Fall issue will hit the stands the 1st of October. So if you haven't subscribed yet, now is the time! It's never to early to give gift subscriptions to your dancing loved ones.
Coming this fall we have a photo essay on Sacred Dance, the oral history of two 'open-source' movement models (Ecstatic Dance and Lunch Beat), a guide to experiential gifts for the holidays, tips on bringing dance to life on film or video, and lot's more of you in our Warm-ups, columns, and event listings.
The deadline to reserve ad space in the Fall issue is coming soon; we're thrilled to offer our advertising friends wider exposure and greater audience as we move to the newsstands this fall. Click here to request a media kit and rates for print and online promotions.
Your positive energy and good intentions surrounding the growing field of conscious movement is what keeps us motivated to continue serving you with ever better services and editorial inspiration. We are so grateful for all the love we feel coming from you. Thank you so much, and please keep dancing!
All the best and heaps of love from the entire team!

BIODANZA WORKSHOP IN NATURE
Where: Danville, CA
When: August 4-5th, Saturday 9:30am to Sunday 7:00pm
Let's celebrate life, dance in joy and harmony with nature, and experience trees, animals, wind, fire, earth and water through our dances. Imagine a whole weekend to share, swim, soak, eat, dance and enjoy ourselves together in a magical haven half an hour from Berkeley.
Nowadays, the greatest dissociation for mankind has to do with our disconnection from the natural world. The challenge for each of us as human beings is to recognize not only that we belong to the human species, but that we are also an essential part of nature. By finding greater harmony with nature and the world around us, we become more whole and perceive ourselves as integral parts of the entire living universe.
$290: includes camping and organic meals.

MINDFULNESS IN MOTION: Authentic Movement as Spiritual Practice
When: August 13 – 17, 2012
Many spiritual teachers suggest developing a heightened state of awareness or 'mindfulness' through practices such as meditation. For over 25 years, I have found Authentic Movement to similarly help develop such inner presence and clear awareness.
In this 5-day workshop, we will explore Authentic Movement as a mindfulness practice that engages our multi-dimensional selves as body, mind, and spirit. Weekly schedule includes morning AM practice, afternoon dyads and 'tracking' exercises, as well as creative time in nature and dancing within community later in the week.
Susan Bauer, MFA, RSME/T is a dance / somatics educator who has taught in both college and community settings in the US. and Asia for over 25 years, informed by her background in dance, Authentic Movement, and Body-Mind Centering®. Having practiced Authentic Movement since 1984, she is devoted to helping others deepen their experience in this inspiring practice. Susan has studied with Janet Adler, and facilitates groups in the U.S and Asia.
Susan developed her own form of dance improvisation based on the philosophy of Authentic Movement, called Moving-from-Within™, that she founded in 1987. She serves as Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco and has a private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area as a Registered Somatic Movement Educator / Therapist. She is also a recent Fulbright scholar to Bali, Indonesia, and leads tours to Bali in Arts and Spirituality.

Waves: Feet First with Claire Alexander
Where: Louden Nelson Community Center, Santa Cruz, CA
When: September 14-16, 2012
We enter this practice as we enter any room-one foot after another, one step at a time. As we deepen our relationship with the 5Rhythms we discover a body that longs to reunite with its instincts, to breathe and move and be danced.
This weekend will be an opportunity to tune into the innate wisdom of our physical selves. By focusing on the five physical gateways (feet, hips, head, hands and breath) that connect us to each rhythm, we'll let our bodies show us the way. Whether you are experienced in the 5Rhythms or new to this practice, this body-based approach will call you home and ground you in the simplicity of this practice... feet first.
The important thing is not to think much, but to love much; and so, do that which best stirs you to love.-- Saint Teresa of Avila
